Madrid vs Athletic
⚽ Mbappé Double Fires Real Madrid to Crucial 3-0 Victory Over Athletic Club
BILBAO, SPAIN – December 3, 2025 – Real Madrid ended a worrying run of three consecutive LaLiga draws with a dominant 3-0 victory away at Athletic Club's San Mamés stadium. French superstar Kylian Mbappé was the undeniable Man of the Match, netting twice and setting up another goal to ensure Los Blancos took all three points in a vital clash.
The result moves Real Madrid back to within one point of LaLiga leaders Barcelona, who had temporarily pulled away with a win against Atlético Madrid the previous day.
Early Brilliance from Mbappé
Real Madrid started the match with clear intent, and it didn't take long for their main man to make an impact. In the 7th minute, Mbappé opened the scoring with a brilliant individual effort. He received a superb long pass from full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, drove menacingly toward the box, cut inside a defender, and fired an unstoppable shot past Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simón.
Athletic Club, despite being at home, struggled to break down the resilient Madrid defense, forcing only a couple of good saves from Thibaut Courtois.
Camavinga Adds to the Lead
Real Madrid doubled their advantage just before the break in the 42nd minute through midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. A smooth team move culminated in Alexander-Arnold delivering an excellently weighted cross, which Mbappé headed back across goal for his fellow Frenchman, Camavinga, to nod in from close range.
Mbappé Seals the Win
The second half saw Real Madrid maintain control, and Mbappé put the game beyond all doubt in the 59th minute. He received the ball and unleashed a spectacular curling shot from nearly 30 meters out, beating Simón again for his second goal of the night. This marked his 16th league goal of the season and continues his remarkable scoring form, bringing his total club and country goals for the season to 30.
Injury Concerns for Los Blancos
The win was slightly marred by two second-half injuries. Trent Alexander-Arnold, who had provided a key assist for the opening goal, was forced off in the 55th minute, and Eduardo Camavinga followed suit shortly after in the 69th minute. The severity of both injuries remains to be seen but will be a concern for manager Xabi Alonso.
The victory will be a major relief for Alonso and his squad, who had been under pressure following a run of poor results. They will now look to build on this performance as they return to the Santiago Bernabéu for their next fixture.
Final Score: Athletic Club 0 - 3 Real Madrid
Goals: Mbappé (7', 59'), Camavinga (42')
